Fury Coming..

Scheduled to release in October, Fury will cash in on the adrenaline-pumping fast paced action of PvP. Players will log on for short periods of time, perhaps during a lunch break, and successfully move up the ranks on the leader boards. I'll wait and see if Fury has what it takes to keep people interested once the initial power rush wears off.

E3 - Orgy Gone

Now that E3 is gone.. who won and who lost in this industry shake-up event? This was a newly crafted E3 which had a very different take than previous years. Not a gigantic sensory orgy in the way of years past, but rather a big huge level industry event with a laundry list of games on display. Of course, as all things - we have upsides and a downsides. The upside was it was much more focused on promoting games than in years past. In the press conferences there were only a handful of games that were not ostensibly 2007 games. Of course, the show had a handful of big winners who improved themselves considerably and some that were not as impressive.

Ebert Sucks

In case you haven't heard before, film critic Roger Ebert does not now and claims he never will see video games as an art form. He reiterated this point at the Hollywood & Games Summit, after Clive Barker called his view of the matter 'prejudiced.' From Eurogamer: "The word 'prejudiced' often translates as 'disagrees with me'," retorted Ebert, columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times. "I might suggest that gamers have a prejudiced view of their medium, and particularly what it can be." [ ... ] "Games may not be Shakespeare quite yet, but I have the prejudice that they never will be, and some gamers are prejudiced that they will." I've never cared about the debate, but just looking online it becomes obvious that some gamers take Ebert's comments as a personal attack. My only thought on the matter has always been that these comments come from a guy who reviews film, a medium that was also not considered art when it became popular entertainment. Perhaps the irony is simply lost on him.

No Co-Op Play for Halo 3

CVG has the disappointing news, originally reported in the pages of EGM, that online co-op play will not be available when Halo 3 launches this September. In the game the second player would play the part of the Arbiter character, but fans will only be able to complete the campaign cooperatively via LAN or split-screen. Bungie stated the possibility still exists online co-op could be patched in at a later date, but significant hurdles stand in the way of the feature:

"'We're not dumb,' says Bungie's Frank O'Conner. 'We know that people want it and we're trying to make it happen. I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That's a significant challenge. And there's lots of design things you could do to prevent that from happening, but they would make it not feel like Halo anymore. If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will - and if it works badly, we won't.'"

Tower Defense

I'm hating life... absolutely.  I have a NEW new addiction.  Its an evil little flash game called Tower Defense.  Easy to play. Easy to learn. Play for 5 minutes.. or 5 days straight.  Hell, I'm playing right now and not being productive.

C64 - Commodore - Still Body

We found out back in March that the Commodore name had been scooped up by a Netherlands-based company looking to reinvent the brand as a modern gaming PC. Now we get wind of the new lineup of PCs coming soon (this quarter) to the States, first via online sales, with an unnamed big-box retail presence following afterward. Commodore PC caseCommodore's new PC case looks plain, but its sturdy all metal design is nice and solid.(Credit: Commodore) Commodore will re-emerge with four basic systems, each with a little bit of wiggle room in terms of its configuration, at least when you order online. Prices start around the $1,700 mark for the most basic Commodore Cg, and they climb progressively to the highest-end Cxx, although Commodore is still working out the baseline costs of the pricier models. All will come with Intel quad-core processors, Nvidia 8000-series graphics cards, Corsair RAM, and Asus-made NForce motherboards. And while Commodore won't be overclocking out of the box, it will be providing all of its systems with a proprietary Peltier-cooling heat sink, that it claims will give gamers room to ramp up their parts themselves. In addition to the hardware, each Commodore system also comes with one of a selection of Ckins (pronounced "see-kins," and pictured above), essentially customer-selected paint jobs, that grace the front and two side panels. All three panels are also designed to pop off easily, and Commodore will offer replacement panels with new art for roughly $300, which includes sound dampening and other features.

I am into a lot of different games though sadly, I get very little time to play them much.  Crysis is a game though I keep watching and waiting to play. Any chance I get to drool over it - I take that chance.

People are too Soft (in the head)

I understand why people have dreams of a peaceful world where we all get along. I can even understand people wishing that violence was gone and that we all 'just got along'. But - come on people! The Raw Story wrote an article regarding Gears of War and Army Recruitment. The Army has sponsored a tournament in which potential recruits compete for big dollars in this violent game. People are complaining that the Army is putting and promoting violent games to our young men - how dare they!

The Army is recruiting people to defend our country and excercise our geo-political will as per our Commander in Chief (Be it Bush.. or whoever comes next). Violence is a part of it. If it wasn't, then their would be a competition based around 'American Idol' or 'Horse Fashion'. Why are people surprised by these things? Too darn soft is why!

The Army is sponsoring a tournament featuring one of the most graphically violent video games every produced. Players will be rewarded tens of thousands of dollars in prizes from the military for chainsaw massacres of opponents, whose deaths are stunningly illustrated…

The venture provides the Army another avenue to reach tech-savvy recruits — though participants must be willing to be contacted by an Army recruiter — as it struggles to maintain its ranks in the fifth year of the Iraq war…

Army officials “looked very carefully at the games recommended,” [Army spokeswoman Louise] Eaton said. While including M-rated games initially “gave us pause,” Eaton said they were OK’d because the tournament is only open to players age 17 and up…

GM’s Instigating Wars

Think you have what it takes to defeat a GM in battle? How about multiple GM’s backed by an army of enemies? If you are up for the challenge, then prepare for Knight Online’s GM Wars! Imagine up to four GM’s per nation on the battlefield leading the charge, challenging players to battle… and… these GM’s can be killed! A summer of destiny will call upon all Knights to face these invading GM’s in combat and see who is left standing at the end of it all. The wars are due this summer with specific dates to be announced in the near future on the website.

Bigger and Better Moradon

Moradon Castle, the starter area for both races in the game, has been rebuilt and the new version will soon be released with a major upcoming patch to the game. The hunting areas will be increased dramatically, and the new castle itself will be massive compared to the current one. Players will discover a lot more space in which to merchant, purchase items and meet fellow Knights. There have also been rumors about some sort of targeting dummy feature, though details have yet to be released on that. Keep an eye out for the launch date on the official Knight Online website.

Cheaters Getting Wiped Out

While GMs are ready to war for fun with honest Knight Online players, they are not going to tolerate cheaters and have been aggressively fighting them. Due to newly implemented methods and tools for catching cheaters, cheating is at an all-time low in the game. The Knight Online Team promises to regularly release patches and develop new and more efficient methods of catching and punishing those players that don’t play according to the rules.

Counterstrike and Movement

Unlike most first person shooter games, counterstrike is based on physical reality and all that encompasses it. The number one reason this is important to realize is, in counterstrike Inertia makes the rules.

INERTIA - The property of matter by which it retains its state of rest or its velocity along a straight line so long as it is not acted upon by an external force.


What that means in noob terms is… “once you start moving, you don’t stop unless something slows you down.”

What can slow you down? There are 5 major ways to get slowed down.

First, you can get shot, although this may seem obvious, it only takes a single bullet to put you or your unfortunate counterstrike opponent in their preverbal place. If you are hit by even a single bullet, you will instantly stop. This is good to remember against those strafe happy opponents and the opponents who love to instantly run around corners just as the gunfight gets started.

The second way you can be slowed down is to not press a directional arrow. Now, this also may sound simple, but if you want to keep moving fast, simply keep your finger on the direction ional arrow. Now, here’s the secret to really put the pedal to the medal. If you want to keep momentum and change directions, simply add a strafe to the direction you are traveling, then keep the strafe button down and in the same motion, take your finger off of the forward direction and put in the reverse direction. You see, counterstrike only sees that your momentum didn’t change; inertia doesn’t recognize that you have actually changed directions. Perfect this movement and you will baffle your opponents at how much faster you seem to be moving than them.

Third and also an obvious observation, walls or any obstruction you fail to dodge will slow you down, sometimes to an instant stop. You have to strafe around all corners. If you do not clear a corner completely, you will get caught, and if you are looking to get somewhere fast, getting slowed down by the wall is not a good idea.

The fourth way you can get slowed down is by jumping. When you jump, you land. What goes up, bla, bla, bla. When you land you are forced to readjust your step which causes you to slow down briefly which causes you to regain your momentum.

And finally your teammates can slow you down, this is called blocking. And I would like this to be punishable by public fraging but, that’s not the way it works. If you notice when you come into contact with a teammate, it is the same as if you hit a wall, you will immediately be slowed down, or worse, stopped. To avoid this from happening, look around, when the game begins, look around and see where everyone is. Once you know your teammates locations, keep an eye on them and make sure you both aren’t trying to occupy the same space.


When you are in a gun fight sometimes you want to get out of the area quick. If you want to retreat to reload or just run… don’t strafe out of there. When you are facing your opponent, you are a wider target. If you attempt to strafe out of his target area, you will be easy to hit because of your size. If you want to run away, quickly turn the direction you want to run and run forward in that direction. This will make your body a much smaller target because your side is much smaller than your front. This is equal to standing sideways in karate instead of standing with your entire front facing your opponent. The less he has to aim for, the better your defense.

Insurgency Mod - Delayed

A lot of people waited all weekend for Insurgency Mod for Half-Life 2 to come out... to no avail.  Midnight has come and gone on the East coast of the US and is quickly approaching the end of the day for the West coast as well.

Heck... 3 years.. and 2 days? Whats the big deal. Hopefully they will have it out Monday and we'll be able to snag a copy and get a server up!

Just said a few moments ago by a team member of the mod..

" Every game needs to meet a standard; before it is released.
INS at this very moment has not met the standard that the “team” wants it to be at.

There are over 30 people right now working on coding, mapping, scripting, and testing amongst other things to get this out to you, the public so you can enjoy it to its fullest extent.

INS is not just another basic mod, as you know it is years in development and these things take time to implemented and working properly.
Trying to meet a set time and date is a possibility only, but do not worry they are close to getting this out.

Please bear with everyone stated above, try to remain calm, and not flame the forums and let the team get this game up to the standards the INS team wants.

To give you the player, a great gaming experience that you will soon not forget."

Insurgency Mod - Coming... now?

After the long wait insurgency mod is planned to be released tomorrow. The mod is kind of based of the Iraq war. You get to play as the Insurgent or a US marine.

World of Warcraft EULA - Will it be enforceable?

Read Section 5 of the WOW EULA (End-User License Agreement) and you might be concerned about allowing Blizzard Entertainment to "monitor" your machine for "unauthorized" third party software. Read Section 11 of the WOW EULA and you might be even more concerned because Blizzard seeks to limit its liability to "the total fees paid ... to Blizzard during the six (6) months prior to the time such claim arose". It remains to be seen whether clauses of this nature are in fact enforceable.

The question really is - has Blizzard gone to far in its efforts to prevent cheating? Gary McGraw (CTO of Cigital Inc.) and Greg Hoglund (CEO of HBGary Inc.) seem to think so. In the meantime, in response to the "monitoring" software Blizzard calls "The Warden", McGraw and Hoglund have released their own piece of software they call "The Govenor". Their software "closely monitors The Warden and curtails activities the authors deem invasive".

And so the war between cyber-defence and spyware continues.


What is an MMO?

It seems to me, on the heels of a review I just finished for Last Chaos, that.. well.. a lot of people may have no clue what a MMO or MMORPG is or even what it stands for.


For those not into geek anagrams, an MMPORG, or 'Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game', is an online game where you as a player are just one element in a large scale universe populated by other gamers from all over the world. Generally these games have thousands, tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of players online at the same time, some interacting with each other, some working in teams, some playing individually.

Some of the more famous MMPORGs are World of Warcraft and Everquest. They've been enormously successful, with huge player bases and serious player involvement, to the point where the MMPORGs become their own functioning economies, even spilling over into the real world.

There ya go - a quicky lesson!
